AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, August 28, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Lightspeed Systems announced that Lightspeed MDM™ now manages every major operating system used in K-12 schools from a single console, making it the first mobile device management platform built for districts to offer that level of coverage. The expanded release adds full support for Windows, Chrome OS, and Android alongside Lightspeed’s existing Apple management, giving IT teams a way to retire the separate tools they have relied on to keep different device types in line.
Most district IT departments juggle at least three systems to manage their fleets: one platform for Apple devices, another for Windows machines, and a third for Chromebooks. Each comes with its own contract, its own support line, and its own console to log into. Lightspeed MDM replaces that patchwork with one system that already shares a student and staff roster with Lightspeed Filter, Classroom, Alert, Insight, and other solutions.

The expanded platform gives districts full control over the same three things every MDM handles, now across every OS in the building:
Policies. Camera access, passcodes, time-based restrictions, and other device rules, enforced consistently across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, Windows, Chrome OS, and Android.
Apps. What gets installed, required, or blocked, pushed silently to supervised devices without any action from the student or staff member holding it.
Commands. Lock, wipe, restart, Lost Mode, or move a device to a new group, sent remotely the moment IT needs to act.
Lightspeed MDM also introduces a policy structure built specifically around how schools organize students, not how a generic enterprise IT tool assumes a company is organized. Every device belongs to exactly one group within a district’s hierarchy, and that placement determines everything that applies to it. Change a policy at the district level and it cascades automatically to every school and group below it, while exceptions such as those for students with IEPs or members of specific programs stay intact.
“With most MDMs, updating a base policy means IT is back in the console reapplying every exception by hand,” Duer said. “A district might have thirty students in an esports club who need a different camera setting than everyone else. With Lightspeed, that exception holds even after the underlying policy changes. Nobody has to go back and rebuild it.”
The platform also lets districts attach time windows directly to a policy, so restrictions that make sense during the school day can relax automatically once students head home, without an administrator touching a console at 3 p.m. every afternoon.
For the roughly 23 million students already on the Lightspeed platform, the update means device management now runs on the same roster, group structure, and admin login districts already use for content filtering and classroom tools.
